Aids in calming inflamed mucus membranes in the sinuses and throat. Soothes respiratory problems such as bronchitis, dry coughs, asthma, runny nose, and post-nasal drip. Acts as an expectorant and decongestant.**
In our Ginger Free Sinus Support Tea, we have replaced the ginger root with marshmallow root, removing the spicy bite from the blend, making it more kid friendly and allowing for longer steeping times without concern of having too much of a kick.
Both versions of the Sinus Support Tea work wonders to clear sinuses and keep mucus flowing. It is a matter of personal preference whether you like the kick from ginger root or not.
Ingredients:
Marshmallow Root*, Peppermint*, Mullein*, Alfalfa*, Nettle*
*denotes organic ingredient
Peppermint: The menthol in peppermint helps in sinus problems by calming inflamed mucous membranes in the sinuses and throat and by thinning the mucus so it is less likely to block the sinus passageways. Menthol also acts as a decongestant which means it breaks down phlegm and mucous congestion.
Mullein: An expectorant, which means it helps the body expel excess mucus, usually by helping make your coughs more productive, to bring up mucus that may be settling in the chest or in the throat. Mullein is also a demulcent. Studies show that demulcents create a soothing anti-inflammatory coating over mucous membranes. Both qualities make it useful for soothing irritation of the lungs, throat, and bronchial passages that may lead to difficulty breathing.
Marshmallow Root: Used as a folk remedy for thousands of years to treat respiratory and sinus conditions. The high mucilaginous content of marshmallow root may make it a useful remedy for treating coughs and colds as it appears to act as an enzyme to loosen mucous and inhibit bacteria.
Alfalfa: Often used in traditional medicine for respiratory conditions due to its anti-inflammatory and immune-strengthening properties.
Nettle: Has been found to possess natural antihistamine properties, which can help reduce the allergic response and alleviate sinusitis symptoms. Nettle has been shown to reduce mucus production and improve drainage from the sinuses significantly.
The above listed benefits are based on traditional and ancient uses. These may or may not be supported by scientific studies and western medicine philosophy.
